Episode 1: The LIST.

by | Jun 19, 2024 | Picky Eaters - Kids and Adults Recipes

This post (along with the three that follow) is an introduction to a series on picky eaters and how I’ve tried to overcome the myriad challenges those sweet, difficult little humans create around my table. I hope you’ll join me!

Sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, onions, radishes, and squash of any kind.

Tuna, salmon, meat or poultry cooked in any sort of sauce.

Brown rice, peaches, pineapples, cherries, and cheese of the wrong color.

Anything resembling a legume, nuts or seeds, lettuce, spinach, kale, and fresh herbs.

Coconut oil, butter, olive oil.

AVOCADOS and BEETS.

No, this is not my grocery list for this week. Nor is it an outline of the basic components of a healthy diet (although everything listed is, in fact, highly nutritious).

This is a list, though not exhaustive, of some foods that my picky five-year-old Will. Not. Eat. Ever.

No cajoling, no pleading, no logical reasoning, no bribery, no time-outs, no refusal to prepare something else for her to eat, no funny stories, dinner time skits, or food cut into creative, Pinterest-worthy shapes and designs, and no house rule of: “Please eat one bite to see if you like it so we can all just move on with our lives,” can convince my daughter to allow ANY of these food items to pass her lips. She simply will not eat them. End of story.

I hope you’ll join me again to find out what I did before stepping into battle with the reigning grand champion, Lil’ Picky.
