Seed Saving in Alabama:
One of AgroshareMD’s very own team members, Dove Stackhouse, is passionate about seed saving. Owner of Whirlwind Farms and one of the founders of the Sand Mountain Seed Bank, Dove has been working to preserve the botanical and cultural food heritage of our region for decades.
Below is a link to an article featured in the magazine Alabama Living. Written by Gail Allyn Short, the article delves into the how and why of seed saving. It also defines heirloom plants from the perspective of people who have made growing heirloom seeds a lifelong passion-project.
The article, “Seed savers: Stoking a passion for old-fashioned plants,” features interviews with Dove Stackhouse, an organic farmer, seed saver, and member of the Agroshare team, who used to operate the food hub in Dr. Koe’s clinic, and Charlotte Hagood, a resident of the Albertville area, acquaintance of Dr Koe’s, long-time gardener and seed-saver, and co-founder of the seed bank.

Saving your own seed not only helps make gardening more affordable, but it also allows you to control the quality of what you grow and eat every step of the way. Check out the article here:
