Several years ago, someone on my Facebook page recommended I join a group called Chaffles. Everyone was raving about this keto way to make bread or waffles, and the concept intrigued me, so I joined the group. The basic ingredients are cheese and eggs cooked together in a waffle maker, but there are many other recipes and combinations available. You also don’t have to limit yourself to breakfast applications. People were making incredible desserts, pizzas, buns and just plain waffles without white flour or processed ingredients and could still enjoy things not normally allowed on a keto diet because of the creative use of a waffle maker.
I invested in the Dash waffle maker, which was only about $10, and decided I’d try out my new kitchen tool on my staff at the clinic. Last night I came home hungry and wanted something fast for dinner. My partner Tim was also tired and did not feel like cooking. The Dash waffle maker I had just bought from Amazon was sitting on the table, and breakfast foods for dinner are delicious. I quickly found a recipe for chaffles online:

I made one in a few minutes and put some left over grilled pork in between and it was wonderful! Tim liked the one I made for him as well. I was so excited to have found something simple that I could cook for him, which he actually enjoys. In our house, Tim is the expert chef and is usually in charge of our food preparation most of the time! The recipe was so simple and delicious, so we will try these at my clinic as well.
I was also excited to find out that you can use chaffles for keto-approved desserts. Desserts and treats are definitely a challenge when you are restricting sugar, carbs, and processed foods. The Chaffles page on Facebook has some really creative ideas desserts, and I look forward to trying them out and posting about my experiences! As always, if you have any ideas or creative uses for your waffle maker, please contact us as we’d love to hear from you!
