Greens are up already!

by | May 27, 2021 | Frannie's Farm Blog

The cats did not ruin the whole greens garden beds!  You can see where they have been digging in my dirt but I already have lots of greens up since Sunday.  I tried to take a picture just now but it is too dark so I will add one in the morning.  If I keep the beds fairly wet which they need to be anyway the cats don’t dig in it as much!  I can also replant in the bare areas, I hope this weekend.  The cole crops I planted under my fruit trees in the hugelkulture are still alive.  I have lost one as something broke off the leaves and only left a stem.  We are watering them every morning and evening.  We shall see if we can keep those plants alive!  If not, not a big loss.  It is an experiment.  This weekend I will plant the rest of my fall garden down at the creek garden.  It is ready to go with lots of wheat straw for mulch.  I also hope to set up my newest bed with my chickens preparing the ground throughout the winter.  I will put a small chicken tractor and four chickens in a small area with an electric fence and have them dig and till the ground all winter so I can plant in the spring.  That idea came from the chicken man.  I will post his web site below!
