I often had a hard time eating meat when I was a kid. My mom had to give us applesauce when she made pork chops so we could swallow them because she over-cooked them and the meat was so dry! I remember being a kid sitting at the table for a long time after everyone left because I could not finish my meat.
We had to eat everything on our plate, but my mom frequently struggled to cook meat that wasn’t overdone. I would chew and chew as it grew in my mouth! Our dog, who sat with her nose at the edge of our dining room, was too far away for me to throw it to her. I would eat tiny pieces until I could choke it all down!
Because of those childhood experiences, I sometimes still dislike eating meat. I have learned that if I struggle to eat any meat, I can just add sour cream! It tastes so good and is low carb. I might put a little Worcestershire sauce on it along with the sour cream.
There are sauces you can make with sour cream (one example is listed below) that can make many meats delectable to eat. My personal assistant is a wonderful cook, and knows how to prepare meat slowly and easily, so it is very tender. I still do not know how to cook meat very well to this day. I got very little practice because I was a vegetarian for 17 years as my kids were growing up!
One comment about Worcestershire sauce- it is not low carb, because it has about 5 g of carbs per teaspoon. It is processed, but it carries a lot of flavor. Primal Kitchen has some organic, sugar-free sauces including steak sauce. We will add the link to these below. I have not tried the Primal Kitchen sauces yet, but the ingredients are keto friendly. Let me know if you have tried it and what you think!
I also love BBQ. Even when I was a vegetarian I would stop at least once a year at the Green Top BBQ on Hwy 78, on the way to Birmingham from Walker County. I had to have a BBQ!
I have tried to make a keto BBQ sauce at home, but have failed miserably. Some of the prepared keto foods are more expensive than the unhealthy ones, unfortunately. But I have decided to test 3 of the Primal Kitchen Sauces and I will get back here at a later date and let you know! Below are links to keto friendly Primal Kitchen sauces on Amazon (affiliate links).
Some of you may prefer to make your own sauce rather than purchase one. Below is a recipe for a homemade steak sauce that is also a delicious topping for vegetables. Please see the Keto Cookbook site linked below for the recipe:
