One thing I love most about being a physician in a rural area is being able to support small, local organizations and to interact with the community. During the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, the staff of The Groundhog asked me to write an article for their paper. The Groundhog is a Mentone, Alabama publication.
The Mentone Area Preservation Association (MAPA) has published the Groundhog newspaper since July 1982. This community publication has been in print continuously for the past forty years, and I was honored to contribute something. If you are curious about learning more, please check out the Groundhog website, which is a part of the MAPA website, here:

Because we were at the beginning of what turned out to be a very long experience with the coronavirus, my article, which you can find on page 24 of the April 2020 edition of The Groundhog (Volume 39, No.4), focused on things you could do to take control of your health and help promote immune function. The article is called “Tips to Support Your Immune System.” If you are interested in reading the entire article, you can find it here:

Since I wrote the article and it was published, Covid-19 has loosened its grip on the country. However, supporting a healthy immune system is always important. An additional update to what I wrote two years ago: Vitamin D can improve the immune function to help combat coronavirus, and many practitioners used IV vitamin C to help combat the virus in ICU patients.
Please support the Groundhog any way you can!
And as always, the information here does NOT replace careful consultation with your own medical professional. Wishing you all good health!
